Sabaism
I just got my new MD (MZ-N510) and went to look for a Optical cable so I can ue my stereo. (Computer crapped out and it'll be awhile before I get a new one.) After failing to find the recommended cables I contacted Sony. The solution was to buy a $84.95 cable. Model number POC-DA12SP. This ain't going to happen. Can i use another cheaper cable? Or will it cause my MD to blow up? Thnx.
Christopher
Welcome. Any of these will do, I imagine. http://froogle.google.com/froogle?q=toslin...F-8&sa=N&tab=wf What you need is a Toslink [stereo] to Miniplug [MD] connector. You must make sure that the digital out on the stereo is a Toslink connector! If it isn't, you need a miniplug to miniplug connector. Most stereos are Toslink > Miniplug, however.. Sabaism
My stereo is a Sony and I used to have my old MD Deck hooked up to it. I just didn't keep the cable like I should have. Thnx for the reply.

Sabaism
The model number on my stereo? I haven't a clue... I have to go back to the apartment and see. I did check last night and have a 'optical out' on the back of it. I assume that'll work. Thnx for the help.
Sabaism
Here's a service manual for my stereo. http://www.promelec.ru/scheme/HCD-MC1.pdf Damned if I can find anything except a service manual for this.
skyther
Yep, you've got an optical out. There's a section in the schematic under Main Section 3/5 F13 where it says there's a digital out (IC402, TOTX178) which is an optical transmitter. Bear in mind that the TOTX178 will only work on optical cables less than 5m in length. Pretty cool stuff, btw. The power amp stage has a built-in thermostat for overheating protection. skyther
I just told you what it is. Read up. You gave me the link, I gave you the reference. Surely you can check the page that says section 3/5 and look for the grid number. : In in doubt, Google is your friend.

Couldn't do anything with the page, even close it. Also, obvisously, I had a brain fart. :wacky: Yep, you've got an optical out. OUt of all on that list (thnx again BTW) I heard of only one and it wasn't good. Anyone out there like one of these companies over another? Syrius
If you're in the USA, Circuit City, Radio Shack, Best Buy and even Sears carry them. No need to go purchasing online if you feel uncomfortable. I think I saw one even at WalMart. Edit: There is always the excellent Minidisco.com
